I am Angela David, a UK-based contemporary artist and founder of Urban Relic Studio, creating original sculptural wall artworks for private collectors, architects, interior designers and distinctive residential and commercial spaces.
My work explores the relationship between structure and imperfection, industrial materials and organic transformation, precision and unpredictability.
Inspired by weathered architecture, oxidised metals, eroded surfaces and the marks left by time, I create dimensional compositions that appear to carry their own history.
Each artwork is individually conceived and created in my UK studio, combining considered design with the expressive character of materials.
From Haute couture to Sculptural Art
Before establishing Urban Relic Studio, my creative background was in womenswear and haute couture design.
Fashion taught me to understand silhouette, proportion, movement, layering and the relationship between form and surface. Those principles continue to influence my artistic practice, although the materials and scale have changed.
Where I once worked with fabric to shape the human silhouette, I now use dimensional structures and layered surfaces to create compositions that interact with architectural space.
The transition from fashion to art was not a departure from design, but an evolution of the same fascination with form, material and expression.
The Beauty of Imperfection
I have always been drawn to surfaces that reveal the passage of time.
A pristine sheet of metal tells one story. A surface transformed by oxidation, erosion and exposure tells another.
Rust, verdigris, irregular textures and unexpected material reactions are often considered imperfections. Within my work, they become essential elements of the composition.
I am interested in the tension between what can be designed and what must be allowed to happen.
Geometric forms provide structure. Reactive materials introduce an element of unpredictability. The resuming contrast creates depth, movement and individuality. The resulting contrast creates depth, movement and individuality.
For me, imperfection is not the absence of refinement. It is an opportunity to discover a different kind of beauty.
Materials as an Artistic Language
My practice brings together sculptural relief, layered structures, industrial-inspired materials and reactive metallic finishes.
Copper, iron, rust and verdigris are used not simplify for their appearance, but for the transformations they make possible.
Working with dimensional elements and carefully constructed surfaces, I explore the contrast between architectural precision and organic change.
Each composition develops through a balance of deliberate intervention and material response.
The result is artwork with physical depth, tactile character and a visual presence that changes with light, perspective and its surrounding environment.
Art in Architectural Space
I approach each artwork as more than an object intended to occupy an empty wall.
Scale, proportion, materiality and the relationship with the surrounding architecture are central to my creative process.
A sculptural artwork can introduce contrast into a restrained interior, establish a focal point within a larger space, or create a dialogue with the textures and materials already present.
My aim is to create work that contributes to the identity of a space rather than simply completing its decoration.
Whether acquired for a private collection or selected for an interior design project, each piece is intended to offer a distinctive and lasting visual experience.
Original Artworks & Bespoke Commissions
Urban Relic Studio offers original, individually created artworks alongside bespoke commissions developed for specific spaces and projects.
Commissioned works can be considered in relation to scale, composition, material palette and the architectural character of their intended setting.
I welcome enquiries from private collectors, interior designers, architects and art consultants seeking distinctive contemporary sculptural art.
Each original artwork is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, with professional crating and delivery arrangements available for UK and international acquisitions.
Art with presence. Materials with character.
Imperfection with intention.

What exactly is an "Architectural Relief," and how does it differ from a standard painting?
Unlike a traditional painting on canvas, an architectural relief extends physically from the wall. I build dimensional layers over a rigid aluminium-composite foundation before applying textured and reactive metal finishes. The result has the depth, shadow and presence of wall-mounted sculpture without the extreme weight of an equivalent solid-metal construction.
Do you create original works only, or do you also accept custom commissions?
I do both. My gallery features a range of original, ready-to-buy pieces developed in-house, each telling its own story. I also warmly welcome custom commissions — whether you have a specific size, theme, material preference or personal memory you’d like transformed into art. I’ll work closely with you throughout the process to ensure the final piece reflects your vision and fits perfectly in its intended space.
How do I care for and maintain my industrial-style artwork?
How is the work shipped, and is it protected during transit?
Each artwork is carefully protected for transport according to its size, construction and destination. Larger works can be professionally crated, with specialist delivery arranged where required. Please contact the studio for shipping options to your location.
